I walked towards Nadia to tell her that I have just confirmed her in myFacebook. But instead, I asked her why the sad look on her face. She said it was Usher. He was so good that he was making her cry. Then she unplugged her earphones and turned the volume up...
The remains of Michael Jackson, King of Pop, was publicly displayed at Staples Center in downtown LA earlier today. So many fans, who paid tribute, flocked the stadium with golden tickets on their hands. It seemed like another one of his grand tour; only that he was not onstage.
Brooke Shields, who became friends with MJ at 13, grievously described the Thriller star as being "...caring and funny, honest, pure, non-jaded and he was a lover of life..." Not only that, I believe he is a lover of beauty when he tried to extremely morph himself into a totally new person. He became more asexual as he grew older, said the Blue Lagoon virgin.
Reverend Al Sharpton turned to Jacko's three kids saying there is "nothing strange about your daddy. It's with strange that your daddy had to deal with. But he dealt with it." Everyone applauded. No matter how great Michael Jackson's star is, Reverend Shapton characterized him as an ordinary stress-stricken human being. And yes, Jackson's "human nature" is figuratively immortalized by John Mayer during this funeral (or memorial, however you may call it). Speaking of being human and regular, how about that bucket of Kentucky Fried chicken that Magic Johnson revealed? It sure broke the sad silence among the mourning crowd. However, it was temporary...
Grief prevailed once more. To me, there is nothing more touching than a child's expression of love to a parent, most especially in a moment of eternal separation. Paris Jackson, daughter of the late Michael, so moved me with her short tearful lines. "I love him . . . so much..." With that, I sniffed and almost cried.
But it was a glittery concert indeed - a beautiful celebration of Michael Jackson's life and passing. The Staples Center was just the perfect venue. Director Kenny Ortega mentioned it was Michael's home - where he did his very last rehearsal. This morning, the said home became a gathering of his loving family, friends, fans and fellow performers. Graced by Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson among others, the stage was further highlighted by Shaheen Jafargholi's rendition of Who's Loving You" by Jackson 5 and the remake of the 1985 song, "We Are The World", written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie.
Then the glitter was over...
Streaming live at 12:50pm, I saw people walking away from Staples... The Pop King, who reigned supreme on his throne as a celebrated artist, has now eternally rested inside his gold coffin. I do not know for sure if he was either interred in Forest Lawn or Neverland. But what I do know is that Michael is survived by his three children - Paris, Prince and Blanket Jackson.
