In Facebook, Mommy T tagged me...
"Met Nelonie Crelencia at my nephew's first birthday party last Saturday. She's into photography and is currently working on a children/parenthood website as a personal project. She asked me if she can take some shots of Z and use her picture for one part of the project. Z slept through most of the party so I was doubtful that she would be able to get any good shots. To my surprise she captured a great shot. If it wasn't for the headband that Z was wearing that day and the caption, I wouldn't have recognized her. I am one proud Momma! :)"...and I am one proud photographer!
One of the most important things to me, as a photographer, is seeing the reaction of people after you have finalized their photos. I say 'finalize' because at the time you take their pictures, there's this question, "Did I look ok in the picture?" Especially when people don't know you yet, there would be doubt. Just like what Mom T wrote, "I was doubtful..." Even I feel the same and question myself, "Did I get the right focus?"
The camera LCD is deceiving. You browse a photo and you say it's clear. But wait till you download it to your computer. It blows up and you see it . . . blurry, grainy or pixilated.
Baby Z's photo is blurred. Since it's not a photoshoot but a birthday party, I felt uneasy trying to focus amidst a busy crowd. I kept telling myself, I could've brought a better lens. In a rather hasty situation like that, a prime F1.4 as opposed to a zoom F3.5 would have helped me. But I still took my chances because that day is the deadline for my photo4fun project.

So, OOF or not, I still like the photo and the way I presented it. My co-Flickrite, H G M, said he likes "the overall soft tone" as it matches the baby's softness. Saint Claire Studio - Ginsky added, "the 'softness' (I think what you're calling not as in focus as you'd like) is perfect for this sweet newborn child. It's a dear shot!"
Yes, it's dear, especially to proud Mama T and Little Miss Z . . . who now highlight Question 3.
